EdmundOptics.jpgThe TechSpec aspherized achromatic lenses from Edmund Optics Inc. are designed to bridge the gap between color-corrected achromats and spherical aberration-corrected aspheres, resulting in color-corrected aspheric components. Providing reduced spherical and chromatic aberration, the doublet lenses consist of two cemented elements that are matched for their color-correction ability and for their small rms spot size. The second surface is fused with a molded polymer aspheric surface. The molds create a stable aspheric contour, eliminating or reducing the wavefront errors present in typical achromats. The lenses have applications in fiber optic focusing or collimation, image relay, scanning, and high-numerical-aperture imaging.
