PREMSTAETTEN, Austria, March 4, 2021 — Ambient Light SensorsThe TSL2520 and TSL2521 ambient light sensors from ams AG fit in a tiny bezel or gap to enable a smartphone’s screen to stretch from edge to edge of the chassis with no aperture.

By maximizing the viewable screen area, smartphone manufacturers can provide a high-quality user experience while enabling effective camera image correction. The TSL2520 features four photodiodes for visible light sensing and two IR photodiodes, allowing for accurate ambient light measurement and the rejection of IR interference.

The TSL2521 offers flicker detection capability. Sensing flicker in artificial light sources such as LEDs at frequencies up to 7 kHz, it provides an image correction input to the phone’s camera, enabling the camera to eliminate banding and other flicker-generated artifacts that can distort captured images and videos.
