Application Programming InterfacePyreos Ltd. has launched an open application programming interface (API) for its ezPyro thin-film mid-IR sensors at the software level, make it quicker and easier for customers to develop applications around the devices.

The ezPyro sensor is the world’s smallest pyroelectric sensor with a digital interface. Applications range from flame and gas detection to sensing the direction of human motion and recognizing hand gestures for wearable devices and the Internet of Things. The API code is efficient and has been optimized for speed of execution, minimal memory footprint and low-system-power consumption. The API is written for an STM32 ARM Cortex-M4 microcontroller, but can be easily ported to other ARM-based microcontrollers.

It includes routines to connect to an ezPyro sensor, configure the sensor and read its digital data stream over an industry-standard I²C interface. The ezPyro API will also allow customers to set up a network of ezPyro sensors, giving them the ability to carry out synchronized sampling.
