Bruker Daltonics Inc. has launched the newest member of its Flex series of matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight (Maldi-Tof) mass spectrometers, the autoflex speed. It incorporates numerous technology advancements that enhance data quality, acquisition speed, mass and dynamic range, and that deliver robust and efficient performance.

With a 1-kHz Smartbeam-II laser, the device is designed to increase productivity and performance in protein and small molecule analysis, as well as in Maldi imaging and Maldi biotyper applications.

The instrument has a wide mass range resolving power of up to 26,000 using PAN technology, a FlashDetector system and a 4-Gb/s digitizer to enable high performance in challenging applications.

The new FAST-SRM mode provides single reaction monitoring capabilities to enhance results for drug imaging in tissues on a Maldi platform. The device achieves the potential of Edmass top-down intact protein sequencing for long sequence readouts including incorporation of the proprietary and patented T³-Sequencing technology.

System configurations can be optimized for a number of analytical operations and environments using both Tof and Tof/Tof modes for a variety of proteomics, imaging, polymer and small molecule applications.

The mass spectrometer is designed to enhance the productivity of laboratories involved in protein sequencing, biomarker discovery, polymer analysis, lipid and glycan analysis, molecular imaging, drug and metabolite tissue distribution, and high-throughput Maldi Biotyper microbiological molecular identification.

Features include enhanced speed with the proprietary 1-kHz Smartbeam-II solid-state laser and electronics for high-throughput applications including liquid-crystal Maldi, Maldi imaging and microbiology identification. The FAST-SRM mode provides single reaction monitoring capabilities for imaging of drugs and metabolites in tissue, and the FlashDetector technology increases resolution and prevents signal saturation for complex samples.

The Maldi Perpetual self-cleaning ion source cleans the instrument in minutes to improve system uptime, with minimal operator maintenance. Optimized software packages are included for protein, peptide and polymer analysis, and for Maldi imaging, clinical research methods and the Maldi Biotyper IVD-CE workflow.
