Aerotech has introduced a motion control industrial computer option for its Automation 3200 multiaxis automation machine controller. The controller provides a rugged, compact panel- or rack-mount (1U or 4U) computer designed for industrial environments. Front and top connections simplify installation with panel-mount devices, while the 183 × 183 × 70-mm enclosure saves space. Optional FireWire ports, USB and serial ports, dual Ethernet and solid-state storage enhance operation.

Designed for 24/7 demanding environments, the controller includes active cooling, full functionality on a single printed circuit board, optional SSD and advanced motherboard watchdog technology. The mounting feet can be rotated to maximize panel space. Standard features include a 2-GHz processor, a 12-VDC or 120-VAC power adapter, audio, integrated graphics and dual Ethernet, and a Windows XP PRO or Windows 7 operating system.

Applications are geared toward industries including semiconductors, data storage, medical laser processing, automotive and machine tools. The system features a software-only motion controller that offers 32 axes of synchronized motion control. It uses distributed control architecture and the FireWire network to provide from 1 to 32 axes of synchronized control with no degradation in performance as the axis count increases.
