Quanergy Systems Inc. has announced the S3 solid-state lidar sensor for autonomous vehicles.

The S3 creates a real-time, long-range 3D view of the environment, recognizing objects while mounted behind a grill, inside a bumper, inside a side-view mirror or behind a rear-view mirror. Through the interaction of the laser, receiver and signal processor, the system generates a half-million data points per second.

The sensor contains no moving parts on a macro or micro scale, resulting in high reliability and long lifetime. More compact than a small point-and-shoot camera, weighing less than 11 ounces and having low power consumption, the S3 can be used in any application that benefits from perceptive vision.
