Color Smart Camera
BILLERICA, Mass., Jan. 20, 2010 – Dalsa Corp. has announced the availability of color processing for its BOA vision system, a highly integrated smart camera. Supported with a full suite of vision tools, the new color version of the BOA sets a cost/performance standard for color enhanced smart cameras. Applications include color inspection in the automotive, food, packaging and pharmaceutical industries.

The camera can be used in identification of parts or assembly features, sorting, counting, positioning of robotic handlers and verification of color hue. The color tools can be combined with standard measurement or identification tools to perform a complete inspection of the part or assembly. The easy-to-use iNspect Express software interface allows operators to rapidly prototype and deploy vision solutions, and it is available with a fully featured emulator for off-line application development and debugging. It supports standard communication protocols such as Modbus and Ethernet/IP for seamless connection to complementary control devices. The RoHS- and CE-compliant camera operates over a temperature range from 0 to 45 °C and runs on a 12- to 30-V supply. It has a ?-in. CCD sensor and produces 640 × 480-pixel resolution.

The ultrasmall BOA has been specifically designed for industry. Its 44 × 44 × 44-mm form factor renders it suitable for use in tight-fit setups. The IP67-rated housing allows the camera to be directly deployed in harsh wash-down environments. This is particularly useful to meet control standards in the food and pharmaceutical industries, and it eliminates the need for a separate, costly protective enclosure. The camera’s small form factor and 360° mounting capabilities allow it to integrate easily into existing production lines, machinery or moving equipment.

To reduce implementation costs, the camera uses standard industrial M12 cord sets for power, communication and lighting control. For applications that require single cable solutions, it can be powered through the Ethernet cable.
