HAMBURG, Germany, March 14, 2011 – Olympus Europa Holding GmbH has announced the release of the BX63 microscope system built with a modular, customizable design that makes it flexible for adjustment to different experimental requirements, while providing inherent future-proof adaptability.

Users can select their preferred components, including optical elements, camera, software suite and control functions. The instrument also incorporates several fully motorized features, including a programmable touch screen and a detachable remote control to maximize accuracy and stability. The accompanying cellSens software can be personalized depending upon user preferences.

The BX63 can be controlled using the touch-screen control surface, the remote control unit or the cellSens software via the mouse. This provides intuitive and easy operation using control units that are fully detachable, thereby providing an ergonomic system that can be tailored to meet user-specific needs. The units provide a wide range of adjustment options, including the ability to change objective lens, mirror unit and observation method, as well as the power to navigate and focus the sample.

Features include a focusing mechanism driven by changes in the height of the nosepiece, rather than by the height of the stage, enabling the stage to be fixed into position, and making the system more stable and precise. The stage is also motorized, facilitating precise X-Y movements using ultrasonic piezo technology to provide silent, smooth and precise operation. Position encoders attached to the stage continuously send X-Y coordinates to the software, maximizing the reproducibility of multiposition experiments. The position of the stage also can be manipulated by hand, allowing rapid changes in sample orientation.

The cellSens software suite performs multiple image alignment, and multiposition and Z-stack acquisition. The microscope can be fitted with a true-color LED system to increase image quality and minimize power consumption. With a wide range of options available, users can fully define their microscopy system, from components to preferred control method.
