GOLETA, Calif., Feb. 9, 2023 — High-power blue laser diodes from Kyocera SLD Laser Inc. deliver 5 W of optical power at 445 nm and are based on proprietary high-gain, semipolar gallium nitride architecture.

The product line is available in a TO-can package or chip-on-submount, as well as a fiber-delivered configuration. The devices are suited for industrial marking, engraving for nonmetals and organics such as resins, plastics, and printed circuit boards, 3D printing, the welding of metals for electric vehicle battery production, dentistry, dermatology, surgery, and more. The blue laser diodes miniaturize, brighten, and reduce power consumption of RGB laser beam scanning modules for augmented and virtual reality markets.
