FAIRFIELD, N.J., June 5, 2018 — Sofradir-EC Inc. has announced a new bolometer by ULIS to meet the speeds of fast imaging applications.
The device gains a response time that is 4× greater than standard bolometers, without any sensitivity trade-off. The new pixel technology achieves a factor of merit of 125 to 150 mK.ms. In contrast to standard bolometers, ULIS’ quicker response time means that it can detect fast-moving objects without producing a blurred image. This new pixel technology enhancement, in conjunction with the bolometer’s comparably lower price, makes it ideal for inclusion in machine vision cameras, where high frame rates for in-line inspection are required but the cost of adopting thermal imaging is prohibitive.
Camera makers will benefit tremendously from these thermal image sensors, which, when used in conjunction with visible or SWIR cameras, can provide additional product quality information during in-process monitoring. The bolometer is also expected to have applications in defense areas, such as missile warning systems.
