CCD CAMERA For low-light measurement in life sciences applications, Sensovation AG has introduced the SamBa SE-34, a CCD camera and intelligent array sensor that the company says combines high-speed spectroscopy with the high sensitivity of a charge-multiplier CCD. The charge on the CCD sensor is amplified above the readout level to enable single-electron detection. A cooled Texas Instruments Impactron image sensor replaces multiple photomultiplier or avalanche photodiode systems and provides full digitization of the spectrum. Wavelength ranges to be measured can be software-selected. The system is suitable for confocal scanning and multiphoton microscopy, scanning laser ophthalmoscopy, live-cell imaging, slide-based cytometry and biochip scanners.
