BELFAST, Northern Ireland, Oct. 1, 2015 —
Andor Technology Ltd. has announced the iKon-XL CCD camera platform for astronomy applications.
It features ColdSpace technology to thermoelectrically cool a 16.8-MP, very-large-area, back-illuminated sensor down to –100 °C, eliminating the need for liquid nitrogen or cryo-coolers.
The device is available with CCD231-84 and CCD-230-80 sensor variants, delivering up to 95 percent quantum efficiency with deep depletion options for enhanced near-infrared sensitivity, read noise of 2 e– and up to 350,000-e– pixel well depth. Deep thermoelectric cooling facilitates minimization of dark current bellow the zodiacal photon background, enabling extremely long exposure times for weak-signal detection.
The iKon-XL is suitable for exoplanet discovery, large sky surveys, photometry, astrospectroscopy and debris tracking.
