For automotive applications, Sharp Microelectronics Europe presents the RJ642A10000Q, a compact CMOS camera module that can be hidden almost anywhere in the outer skin of vehicles. It can be incorporated into the frame of the rear window or into the side mirror to eradicate blind spots. It measures 19 x 19 x 19.5 mm. Ambient light of 1.8 lx, corresponding to the brightness of a moonlit road, is sufficient to produce clear images. The company says that the camera reaches the high light sensitivity that is usually achieved only by CCD modules. Its high recording speed is important for active driver assistance systems.
