dTemp Advanced Photonix Inc. has introduced a detector assembly to measure color temperature in infrared noncontact thermometers used in the automotive, food processing, chemical, plastics, steel, ceramics and glass manufacturing industries. It comprises two sandwiched silicon PIN photodiodes designed to deliver minimal dark current, high saturation and low noise, and integrated into a hermetically sealed TO-5 package. The top photodiode absorbs part of the incident light, and the remaining light is transmitted through the lower one. Their signal-to-noise ratio, a function of wavelength, determines the color temperature of a blackbody radiator.
