Nikon Instruments Inc. is offering a confocal imaging attachment for use with the Eclipse L200 series microscopes. The confocal module provides two modes: one with larger pinholes for brightness and one with smaller pinholes for increased confocal effect. The images are visible in real time through the eyepieces or through the vertical port for video, film or digital photography. The device has a tilting binocular tube, a 2:1 intermediate zoom and a mount for mercury illumination of the confocal disc. Linewidths below 200 nm to approximately 180 nm can be resolved with dry objectives using an NA of 0.95. The 150x water immersion objective lens can be used to observe linewidths below 150 nm for failure analysis.
