Available from Xoran Technologies Inc., the MiniCat is a specialized CT scanner that captures images of the sinuses, skull base and temporal bones at a radiation dose nearly 10 to 12 times lower than that of conventional CT scanners. The MiniCat features an upright open design that allows patients to sit in a normal position, without sedation. The scan is complete in 40 s or less. The system offers resolution down to 0.3 mm voxels as well as multiplanar and oblique reconstructions, and it requires 8 × 10 ft of space. It is compatible with the picture archiving communications system and with the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine standard.
