Canon 3-D Machine Vision System for Random Bin Picking
Canon U.S.A. Inc., Industrial Products Div.Request Info
Canon’s 3-D Machine Vision System was developed in response to the needs of manufacturing industry to automate a simple task of random bin picking. Robot picks parts from an unstructured pile and places them to next production process. It is an easy task for humans but not for robots without eyes.
Employing Canon proprietary digital imaging, recognition, data-processing, and optical technologies, the RV series serve as the “eyes” and “brain” of industrial robots to meet production requirements of high accuracy, speed, and low maintenance. These three-dimensional eyes are capable of seeing randomly piled parts in depth while the brain calculates precise position and rotation of a piece and communicates with the robot for the best pick.
Bundled 3-D Recognition Software is easy to use but powerful. With a simple preparation with CAD data, registration of parts is user friendly, yet allowing accurate recognition various parts in size, shape, and materials. A unique library for each part is included in the software and helps to identify patterns and speedily recognize part position and orientation.
Benefits of using these machine vision systems include one-time measurements of 3-D pose, high-speed recognition, improved productivity, and reduced production costs. This series is ideal for use in industrial production applications such as car manufacturing, automobile parts manufacturing, and electronics and plastic manufacturing where parts are in a bin for assembly.
As Canon leads the challenges of random bin picking, 3-D Machine Vision Systems are successfully in multiple production lines.
