SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 28, 2011 — Calmar Laser’s Cazadero femtosecond fiber laser chirped pulse amplifier (FLCPA) system provides end users with full control of pulse repetition rates and pulse energies to meet their application requirements. To cover the gamut from precision surgical procedures to micromachining processes, pulses can also be delivered in customizable burst mode sequences or in single-shot mode.

The Cazadero was first introduced in 2005 for precision materials processing applications in medicine and microelectronics manufacturing. It now provides up to 20-µJ pulse energies and offers megahertz repetition rates with a typical pulse width of <500 fs. It provides good pulse-to-pulse stability, a low-pedestal pulse shape, and an output beam with roundness better than 80% and M2 <1.2. The laser is completely air-cooled and designed for stable, maintenance-free operation in demanding OEM applications.

In precision surgical and micromachining ultrafast laser applications, it is critical to tailor pulse energies for optimal material removal while ensuring that repetition rates support acceptable throughput. The end user’s ability to fully control the timing of the pulses is crucial for the safety, quality, reproducibility and reliability of these processes. The Cazadero provides the customer access to these features both electronically and manually with a user-friendly interface. Parameters are selected via a hex switch on the laser controller’s front panel or via a computer interface on the back panel. All other specifications, such as beam profile and pulse shape, remain unchanged by these integrated features.

The company says that the freedom to access selectable pulse energy and switchable repetition rates enables customers to investigate a wider range of applications, facilitate more systematic laser parameter studies and develop better process control in real-world applications.
