ANDOVER, Mass., April 23, 2021 — Continuous Zoom and Thermal Imaging LensThe Ophir® LightIR 16-180 mm MWIR f/3.6 continuous zoom and thermal imaging lens has been announced by MKS Instruments Inc.

The lightweight, long-range, motorized lens is optimized for smaller-size, 10-µm pitch video graphics array (VGA) focal plane array detectors. It features a folded optics design that significantly reduces the length of the lens and, therefore, the overall size and weight of the optical system in which it is incorporated.

The lens is 65% smaller than existing MWIR, 10-µm VGA lenses, making it ideal for demanding requirements of reduced size, weight, and power, and small gimbal thermal imaging applications including drones and tactical unmanned aerial vehicle IR cameras, as well as micro- and mini-tactical payloads in the commercial, homeland security, and defense markets.
