The device characterizes polarization-maintaining fiber coils, such as those used in fiber optic gyroscopes. The instrument helps gyro manufacturers reduce their test and assembly costs and improve quality.

Proprietary algorithms eliminate ghost images that have made interferometric analysis difficult in the past.
