BioTek Instruments Inc. has added new features to its Cytation 3 cell-imaging multimode reader. The instrument combines digital microscopy and conventional microplate detection to provide cellular and subcellular imaging and analysis for various life sciences applications.

The modular, compact device’s higher-magnification 40× and 60× objectives can now image bacteria, yeast and subcellular structures such as mitochondria. It is compatible with 35-, 60- and 100-mm petri dishes, and it can be integrated with the proprietary BioStack 4 stacker to increase throughput of lidded and unlidded microplates. The company’s Gen5 data-analysis software offers additional capabilities.
