LightStone, a high-power diode laser based on the industry-standard macrochannel-cooled platform, has been launched by Coherent Inc.'s Semiconductor Div. It provides more than 50% power conversion efficiency, even at high temperatures. The proprietary cooling technology that provides the device's thermal resistance, which is <0.35 °C/W, gives the unit a 10,000-h lifetime. Designed for use in direct-diode materials processing and as a high-power pump source for diode-pumped lasers, it produces 60 W of CW power in the 780- to 820-nm range. Typical operation requires 70 A at less than 2 V.
