The Onyx microchannel cooled package 100-W diode laser bar manufactured by Coherent Inc. delivers 100 W of CW output power at 808 nm. Lifetime is >10,000 h, and electrical-to-optical conversion efficiency approaches 60%. The water-cooled laser bar can be assembled into vertical stacks containing from one to 45 bars, with pitch of 1.6 mm. It also can be used to form compact horizontal arrays because each stack is only 11 mm wide. A stack can be placed directly next to another one with a gap of <1 mm. The bar can be employed as a pump light source for use in solid-state lasers in medical and industrial applications, or as a direct source for materials processing applications such as cladding, welding, heat treating and brazing.
