The VSC7928, a 3.2-Gb/s diode laser driver with a maximum modulation current of 100 mA, can be matched to a variety of laser diodes. Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. says that the laser driver's on-chip selectable data reclocking feature provides a simple way to achieve margin in the data eye by reducing the jitter in the input data stream. The driver's short rise and fall times provide dispersion penalty for short-, intermediate- and long-reach fiber communications. Specifications include 20% to 80% rise and fall times of <80 ps, low jitter of 3 ps rms and 400 mW dissipation.
