Nufern produces large-mode-area Yb-doped double-clad fibers for higher power/energy output for fiber lasers and amplifiers used in military, industrial and medical applications. The company says that its fibers enable efficient, compact diode-pumped fiber sources that can compete with solid-state lasers. The fibers have a 20/400 core/cladding size delivered with a low-NA (0.06) core, allowing a mode field area several times larger than standard double-clad fibers. With these fibers, manufacturers can enjoy the benefits of fiber lasers over solid-state lasers without sacrificing power/energy levels, according to the company.
