Photline Technologies has released the ModBox 1550-nm differential phase shift keying (DPSK) reference transmitter for use in optical telecommunications laboratories, test beds and production.

The 12-Gb/s optical modulation unit generates high-performance DPSK optical data streams and incorporates a modulation stage based on a high-data-rate LiNbO3 Mach-Zehnder modulator, coupled with a high-performance radio-frequency driver and automatic bias control circuitry. It also can receive an internal laser source and a receiver stage based on a delay line interferometer and balanced detector.

The ModBox also is available at 1310 nm and for data rates up to 56 Gb/s. Alternative modulation formats, such as DQPSK and NRZ, as well as customized equipments also are offered.
