SpectraPhysics.jpgThe Hippo 1064-27 and the Explorer 532-2 Q-switched diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) lasers from the Spectra-Physics Lasers Div. of Newport Corp. are for use in photovoltaic manufacturing. The Hippo delivers >27 W of infrared average power at 100 kHz, and the Explorer, up to 2 W of green average power. Both feature a short pulse width to minimize heat-affected zones, to reduce kerf height and to recast material. The company says that the good pulse-to-pulse stability provides consistent scribe quality and that the good beam quality produces narrow scribe linewidths and increased depth of focus.
