What are the key features of your product/service? DROACOR® is a fully automatic physics-based processor which dynamically adjusts to the given instrument and the atmospheric conditions for an automatic reflectance retrieval from drone imagery.

What problems does it solve? During the last few years, drone based sensors have been widely used in geology, exploration, and agriculture. Image acquisition is often conducted in both clear and cloudy conditions in areas difficult to access, and over longer periods of the day. Our new generation physical approach of atmospheric correction software provides a practical solution to the related variations in the imagery. It improves the analysis of the series of images since ground brightness variations caused by varying illumination conditions and atmospheric influences can be compensated.

Why is it newsworthy or innovative? The new atmospheric correction software DROACOR® supports standard sensor systems from major imaging spectroscopy manufacturers, but also multiband imagery. This software leads to higher consistency for large scale UAV data acquisitions without the need of frequent deployment of reference panels in the field. The processing includes radiative transfer based spectral optimization and polishing. A smooth and automatic workflow is applicable to full directories of data acquisitions by simple GUI inputs or in batch mode.

Additional features such as topographic correction, shading corrections and BRDF adjustments improve final mosaics. The software also allows to create reflectance based standard products such as vegetation index calculation and minerals mapping.

What are the photonics applications and/or markets served? The field of application spans all type of monitoring and mapping task of drone-based imager. Imaging spectroscopy methods have been established in geological exploration and mineralogy, but also for vegetation monitoring, accurate and consistent reflectance retrieval is a must, specifically if the development of the vegetation is to be analysed by multitemporal data acquisition. The DROACOR® correction approach is also well suited for reflectance retrievals in environments which are not accessible easily on the ground such as water bodies or dense forest.
