The quartz lens from Asahi Glass Co. Ltd. (AGC) is designed for deep UV LEDs.

Deep UV LEDs have a low impact on the environment and strong disinfectant action. They are expected to be the next-generation light source that replaces the mercury lamp. The Asahi lens is integrated with quartz window material and proprietary technology, making a transparent adhesive unnecessary. In addition, the special solder developed by AGC is already overlaid so clients can join lens and cavity by simply heating and pressing in the atmosphere, without large-scale deoxygenation equipment.

The soft special solder eases the thermal stress due to difference of coefficients of thermal expansion between the package and window, preventing cracks or leaks. By these means, deep ultraviolet LED manufacturing processes can be greatly simplified and capital investment can be reduced.
