BostonMicromachines.jpgAn enhanced deformable mirror from Boston Micromachines Corp. improves the performance of retinal imaging systems, enabling earlier detection of eye diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. It corrects for tissue-induced wavefront aberration, allowing a clearer view of the retina. The improved Multi-DM model delivers increased stroke while maintaining high resolution. Its 3-kHz frequency allows for high-speed real-time imaging with a 6-mm aperture that is suitable for studying dilated pupils. The device provides wavefront amplitude correction for older eyes by offering 6 μm of stroke, which translates to 12 μm of wavefront correction. It also enables enhancements in other areas of biological imaging.
