BEDFORD, N.H., April 16, 2018 —
Laser Components USA Inc. has announced diffractive optical elements (DOEs) that allow laser beams to be split, bundled, or formed into almost any shape for multiple applications.
The food industry can use these devices for laser perforation by applying microholes into packaging for fruit or vegetables that allow the food to breathe, thus extending storage life. The holes have diameters of between 50 and 300 µm, depending on the type of food and material.
Using multispot DOEs for this application, the required number of identical laser beams can be generated with one single optical element, and almost all the energy of the original beam is preserved.
