Available from Diagnostic Instruments Inc., the Spot RT3 monochrome digital camera features FireWire connectivity and is suitable for bright-field and fluorescence imaging applications. It has a 1600 x 1200 array of 7.4- x 7.4-μm pixels, and its effective differential cooling of –43 °C suppresses dark current under 0.003 e/p/s for long-exposure fluorescence applications. The company says that the 14-bit device’s improvements over its predecessor include higher sensitivity, a 20x reduction in dark current and triple the frame-capture rate. The system has 25% lower read noise, providing higher dynamic range when combined with the deep pixel wells of the Kodak KAI 2020 CCD. The device also is available in color mosaic or user-selectable color/monochrome models. The cameras include the Spot imaging software.
