GENEVA, July 7, 2022 — Direct Time-of-Flight SensorThe VL53L8 direct Time-of-Flight sensor from STMicroelectronics can be used for smartphones, smart speakers, human-machine interfaces, consumer lidar, augmented reality, and more.

The sensor combines metasurface lens technology with a powerful, efficient laser and on-chip processing. With a ranging performance of up to 4 m in all zones indoors and a power consumption reduction, the sensor’s optical metasurface technology allows the collection of more light, multiple functions in a single layer, and new forms of sensing in smartphones and other devices in a compact package.
