EMCCD Blue-Photon Detector
Andor TechnologyRequest Info
Andor Technology plc has announced the launch of its iXonEM Blue EMCCD (electron-multiplying CCD) camera. The single-photon-sensitive low-light imaging camera is based on a blue-enhanced variant of a 512 × 512-pixel-resolution back-illuminated EMCCD sensor and is engineered to deliver up to greater than 20% additional sensitivity to blue wavelength photons.
The detector offers enhanced quantum efficiency performance between 300 and 470 nm, -100 °C thermoelectric cooling, a frame rate of 35 fps at full resolution, low clock-induced charge noise, RealGain calibration of electron-multiplying gain control and advanced quantitative stability. The rapid vertical shift capability provides speed advantages when operated with binning/subarray, while minimizing vertical smear.
The proprietary and patented EMCAL user-initiated routine performs automatic recalibration of the electron-multiplying gain scale without the need for a light source or factory recalibration.
Pixel size is 16 × 16 µm, image area is 8.2 × 8.2 mm, and maximum readout rate is 10 MHz. The detector offers “fast kinetics” and “cropped sensor” acquisition modes, a choice of a blue optimized antireflection-coated window or an uncoated quartz flat window, and a built-in C-mount-compatible shutter.
Applications include ultracold ion imaging, luminescence detection and calcium signaling.
