Electronic Autocollimator

Newport Corp. has introduced Conex-LDS, an ultracompact, high-precision electronic autocollimator. The small controller is integrated into the optical head of the autocollimator, occupying 4 × 1.5 × 1.5 in. (volume).
It replaces the legacy LDS1000 to offer the same 2-kHz data refresh rate, enabling analysis of resonance modes of structures, in a smaller package. The angular sensitivity of the high-resolution controller is 0.01 µrad, suitable for measuring small angular variations and enabling accurate alignment procedures.
The autocollimator is used for traditional metrology applications in production environments such as pitch, yaw, straightness, bearing eccentricity and wobble. It also is suited for all high-precision industrial applications that require noncontact alignment and angular measurement.
The compact and portable design, the integrated ±0.85° field-of-view eyepiece and the included mounting accessories enable quick setup on site and/or on the production floor. The autocollimator is equipped with a position-sensitive detector sensor, selected for its fast response time.
The architecture supports, via the analog outputs, a sampling frequency of 2 kHz, making it possible to observe and analyze rapid events such as structural vibrations. The embedded controller supports RS-422 communication, which is USB-compatible via the Conex-USB-RS-422 converter.
Each unit is individually tested and delivered with a calibration and certification report. The Class II laser device is safe to operate and comes with easy-to-use software.
