Avago Technologies has released a 40-Gb/s Ethernet quad small-form-factor pluggable transceiver for short-range multilane data communications and interconnect applications. The four-channel parallel optic module is fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3ba 40GBASE SR4 specification and can integrate four independent 10-Gb/s data lanes in each direction to provide 40-Gb/s aggregate bandwidth. The device can be used in data- or telecom switch and router connections as well as in data aggregation and backplane applications. It is designed to operate over multimode fiber systems at a nominal wavelength of 850 nm.
