HARPENDEN, England, July 7, 2011 — Europa, an optical parametric amplifier (OPA) from Elliot Scientific Ltd., is directly pumped by submillijoule pulses provided by the FemtoSource high-energy oscillators such as the XL 500 and XL 650.

The complete package of the FemtoSource XL, the PulseFinder programmable pulse picker and Europa constitutes a tunable laser source for delivering high-pulse energy at repetition rates of up to 5.1 MHz across the visible to the mid-infrared spectral range.
The OPA’s signal output delivers ultrashort pulses in the mid-IR spectral region with pulse energy exceeding 20 nJ. An optional second-harmonic-generation stage provides pulses covering the visible spectral region. The idler, as well as the original sub-50-fs pump beam from the oscillator, are available as additional outputs.
The megahertz repetition rate decreases acquisition time and improves the signal-to-noise ratio, benefiting imaging and other data-intensive applications. Uncomplicated, stable and compact, the system is suitable for use in spectroscopy and microscopy applications that require a high signal-to-noise ratio, such as time-resolved spectroscopy; biochemistry spectroscopy; pump-probe measurements; semiconductor diagnostics; multiphoton microscopy; and solar cell diagnostics.
In combination with the PulseFinder pulse picker, the repetition rate can be programmed to any subharmonic of the full repetition rate of 4 MHz.
