Melles Griot Optics Group, manufacturer of UltraThin and IES shutters,
has released the ExtremeService shutter, designed for operation in
extreme environmental conditions involving large variations in
temperature. The new shutter is optimized for OEM applications, such as
night-vision cameras and analytical instrumentation, that require
compact size, low weight, and low-voltage operation.

high reliability in harsh environmental conditions. Its robust,
temperature-insensitive design performs flawlessly at temperatures as
low as 440 °C and as high as +70 °C. The blade coatings are highly
emissive in the infrared spectral region, making these shutters the
ideal choice for calibrating uncooled sensors in FLIR systems. The
ExtremeService shutters provide the reliability and control needed for
night-vision and infrared-illumination systems, including a wide range
