SAN DIEGO, Calif., July 1, 2008 – The 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, will be captured in high speed, high-definition TV imagery at 5,400 frames per second.
The images from the Fastcam SA1 camera, made by Photron, will be integrated into a new imaging system called the SprintCam V2, made by i-Movix. The SprintCam V2 will be used to record various Olympic events, allowing high-definition
images to be seen in instant replay, in extreme slow motion.
According to Photron, their cameras have been successfully used for a host of other sports and television broadcast events, such as the PGA tour with CBS, the Australian Tennis Open, and several TV productions, including BBC’s
critically acclaimed Planet Earth series, CBS’ CSI franchise, and Discovery Channel programs such as Future Weapons and Time Warp.
The FastCam SA1 is ideal for events like the Olympic Games because it records high speed action with precision imagery, has excellent color fidelity, great light sensitivity, and offers microsecond global shuttering, says Photron.
It is capable of imaging up to
675,000 frames per second at reduced resolution and is DC-powered, featuring both HD and RS-170 video outputs for easy integration.
The 2008 Summer Olympics will be celebrated from August 8-24, at the Beijing National Stadium in Beijing, People’s Republic of China.
