For sensing, lidar, metrology, communications and general R&D, NP Photonics Inc. has announced the Scorpion fiber laser that delivers 0.5 to 5 W of output and operates over the eye-safe wavelengths of the C-band from 1530 to 1565 nm, and in the near-IR from 1030 to 1085 nm. The master-oscillator power-amplifier configuration boosts output and maintains a <3-kHz linewidth and low phase noise. The all-fiber design makes the laser immune to many environmental stressors, virtually eliminates coupling loss and decreases sensitivity to vibration and acoustics. The output power emanates from a polarization-preserving single-mode fiber.
