Semrock Inc. has expanded its line of BrightLine fluorescence filter sets for microscopy with the addition of the cost-effective BrightLine Basic hard-coated sets. The single-band filters offer the “no burnout” durability of the flagship filters along with optical performance that exceeds that of soft-coated fluorescence filters, according to the company. Manufactured via ion beam sputtering technology, they are brighter than the soft-coated filters of comparable contrast. The sets are in stock for a wide range of popular fluorophores, including cyan and blue fluorescent protein, other UV-excited blue-emission fluorophores and the wild-type green fluorescent protein, which is blue-shifted relative to the most common forms of the protein.
