The FTB-8000, available from Exfo Electro-Optical Engineering Inc., is a SONET/ SDH test module designed for metro and access networks with data transmission rates from 10 Gb/s to 64 kb/s. The module integrates protocol-, optical- and physical-layer testing capabilities in a single platform. Users can correlate protocol-layer anomalies, such as bit or parity errors, with optical- and physical-layer defects, such as optical signal-to-noise ratio, excessive polarization mode dispersion or chromatic dispersion. The FTB-8000 has a smart user interface with test scripting for automated field testing and can be operated remotely via the Visual Guardian element management system.
