Semtech Corporation’s 2.5G symmetric Fiber to the Room (FTTR) chipset is designed to accelerate global passive optical network (PON) deployments. Semtech’s chipset enables the industry transition from asymmetric 1.25G/2.5G systems to true symmetric 2.5G FTTR deployments. The chipset consists of the GN25L42 OLT Super TIA, GN25L83 Symmetric 2.5G OLT Combo, and the GN25L70 Symmetric 2.5G ONU Combo. The GN25L42 OLT Super TIA is a burst mode transimpedance amplifier for Master FTTR Units, compatible with low-cost PIN photodiodes to meet the sensitivity requirements of FTTR Ra and Rb standards. It has an integrated burst-mode RSSI output that reduces component costs and setup time. GN25L83 Symmetric 2.5G OLT Combo is a laser driver and burst-mode limiting amplifier with dual-rate 2.5/1.25-Gb/s support, programmable Rx equalization, and -31 dBm sensitivity. The GN25L70 Symmetric 2.5G ONU Combo is a burst-mode laser driver and limiting amplifier for sub-FTTR units, designed for through-hole BOSA optics. CMOS-based design eliminates flex PCB requirements. Applications include broadband infrastructure expansion, fiber-to-premises deployments, and in-home optical networking. The chipset is aligned with ITU PON and CCSA standards to support evolving FTTR requirements.
