SAN DIEGO, April 3, 2013 — Photron Inc. has announced the Fastcam SA-X2, a high-speed camera system with a 20-μm² pixel CMOS sensor and with direct download to onboard SD cards. Applications include combustion research, materials science, fluid dynamics, and defense and aerospace research.
The camera delivers up to 13,500 fps at 1024 × 1000-megapixel (12 bits) resolution. The highest frame rate, up to 1 million fps at reduced resolution, is available in the 1000K model. The company says that the camera’s 293-ns shutter time enables high-velocity events to be imaged with no motion blur compared with competitive models.
It also features a dual Gigabit Ethernet interface with download speeds of 8 GB/min. Its capacity to partition the available memory (8-, 16-, 32- and 64-GB onboard options are available) makes it possible to download one partition while recording high-speed videos to another.
It is available with both a C- and an F-mount (compatible with Nikon G type) lens with optional support for Canon EF lenses, including control of both iris and focus via proprietary software. An optional sealed enclosure protects the camera from dust, dirt and other materials.
