PI (Physik Instrumente) LP - Fastest Nano-Focus StagesAccurate focusing of light and laser beams plays a crucial role in various fields such as life science, microscopy, slide-scanning, and industrial manufacturing and inspection. Achieving sub-micrometer to nanometer resolution with rapid response times in the millisecond range is essential. Various methods, including linear motors, piezo-direct drives, and piezo walk motors, are employed to meet these requirements. Each approach comes with its own set of advantages and limitations. Linear motors offer extensive travel ranges, while piezo nanofocusing stages excel in achieving the highest resolution (in the picometer range) and extremely rapid settling (sub-millisecond). Notably, piezo devices possess inherent stiffness, enabling them to maintain a position without requiring power and generating heat. Additionally, they can operate in both closed loop and open loop configurations. PI has extensive experience in the design and manufacture of all the above-mentioned designs and can help guide customers towards the best solution for their applications.
