MILPITAS, Calif., March 5, 2012 — A polarization-maintaining optical isolator optimized for 638-nm diode lasers has been unveiled by Blue Sky Research. The fiber-pigtailed PSFI is designed for isolating visible laser diodes from reflected light that may otherwise produce instability in the source laser or induce damage to it. It is tuned for light in the wavelength range of 635 to 670 nm but can be optimized to meet any application inside the visible spectra.
The device is designed for fiber-to-fiber industrial applications, where polarization maintenance, low insertion loss and high optical isolation are key criteria. The all-passive optical design ensures reliable fiber alignment and performance over a wide range of operating environments. All fibers are polarization-maintaining for their specified wavelength and may be spliced to lasers or fitted with FC/APC connectors.
