OLCHING, Germany, Dec. 9, 2014 — NorthLab Photonics ProCleave LDThe ProCleave LD fiber cleaver from NorthLab Photonics is designed for use with fiber cladding diameters from 125 to 550 µm and coatings up to 900 µm.

The device is suited for use in the production environment and the laboratory, both in laser production and in medical and sensor technology. ProCleave can be integrated into existing splicing and work stations and is also battery operated for mobile use.

Fiber is subjected to an adjustable longitudinal tension and cleaved using a diamond blade. The cleaving angles are <0.5°. An integrated backstop aids cleaving with double-clad and structured fibers. It can be operated with bare fibers or accommodate fiber holders from different brands of fusion splicers.
