Nyfors Teknologi AB’s recoating solution simplifies fiber coating restoration in specialty applications requiring long fiber strip lengths. The extended-length version of the ReCoater 2 offers fast curing of high- and low-index materials as well as linear or rotary tensile-testing functionality.

Designed around a proprietary silicone mold technology, the platform accepts both an extended-length 110 mm and the standard 34- or 55-mm recoating molds. Various mold types and diameters are available, and users can choose whether to create a uniform diameter recoating that matches the original fiber diameter; recoatings with a cross section slightly smaller than the original fiber coating (undersize); or recoatings with a larger diameter that overlaps the original coating at each end of the recoating area (overcoating). Molds can be interchanged in <1 min, with no realignment required.

Injection of the recoating compound is performed manually, enabling the user to switch immediately from one type of recoating compound to another — e.g., from a high- to a low-index recoating material — without having to flush out a recoater reservoir and injection pumping system.

Motorized clamps eliminate the need for an external air supply, while the built-in LCD touch-screen control provides easy access to all system parameters.
