Flattop/Extended-Travel Stages

EUGENE, Ore., July 28, 2010 — Applied Scientific Instrumentation offers an assortment of stages with flat tops and extended range of travel for robotic loading.
The MS-2500 stage provides 100 mm of Y-axis travel and 250 mm of X-axis travel, and works well on existing inverted microscopes. Custom OEM configurations are available including front-loading stages with more than 300 mm of Y-axis travel. All axes derive their precise control through the use of closed-loop DC servomotors employing high-resolution encoders for positioning feedback.
The XY stage uses crossed-roller slides, precision leadscrews and zero-backlash miniature geared DC servomotors for smooth and accurate motion. The stages come standard with rotary encoders with a resolution of 100 nm and bidirectional repeatability of better than 800 nm rms.
Resolutions down to 20 nm and repeatability accuracies of <300 nm rms can be obtained with optional linear encoders. Compact tabletop and OEM board-level controllers accept industry-standard commands, provide automatic backlash correction, and enable RS-232 and USB communication with a host computer.
The MS-2500 XY flattop stage’s extended travel makes for easy robotic loading or for holding more samples per stage insert. It accepts both standard 160 × 110 and wide 283 × 110 stage inserts. Total stage thickness is 54.1 mm, and only 29.3 mm from its flat obstruction-free top to its bottom mounting surface.
Using closed-loop control of the stage position eliminates the chance that the stage will become lost, as can occur with open-loop micro-stepped stages after a number of moves and direction changes.
A backlit LCD shows the axes’ coordinates. The stage features “zero” and “home” buttons for simple stand-alone operation.
