Targets for Maldi Analysis
COLUMBIA, Md., Aug. 12, 2009 – Shimadzu Scientific Instruments Inc. is introducing cost-effective, disposable targets for matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (Maldi) analysis. The single-use FlexiMass-DS targets developed for Shimadzu Biotech are plastic substrates manufactured from conductive polymeric material for consistent performance. They have a high-quality reproducible metalized target surface and are manufactured to high tolerances for reliability.
The targets are supplied in a 48-well microscope slide format, making them suitable for either manual or automated robotic sample spotting. They are designed for use with the purpose-built Precision adapter, which can be loaded with four targets, enabling analysis of up to 192 samples in a single session.
The company says that the targets are more cost effective than traditional stainless steel substrates, and they do not require cleaning prior to use, minimizing sample preparation time. They eliminate carryover issues from sample to sample, are suitable for most types of MALDI sample and matrices, and they can be used with the company’s Assurance, Confidence, Performance, Resonance, TOF2, LNR, CFR, CFRplus and QIT Axima systems.
